Ringwood Magistrates Court
Ringwood Magistrates Court is located at 39 Ringwood Street in Ringwood. It is just off the Ringwood Bypass and opposite Eastland.
If you are the defendant in a criminal matter, your matter will be listed at the Ringwood Magistrates Court at first instance if the offending is alleged to have occurred within Ringwood or the immediately surrounding suburbs. If your matter resolves as a plea of guilty, you may apply for it to be transferred to a court closer to where you reside.
The Magistrates Court is the court where all criminal matters involving adults commence. It is also the court that hears summary criminal matters including traffic offences, as well as family violence and personal safety intervention order applications. While the Magistrates Court deals with criminal matters where the accused is aged 18 or older, the Children’s Court (located in the same building) deals with criminal matters where the accused is under 18, with intervention order applications where the respondent is under 18 and with child protection matters.
If you have a matter in the Ringwood Magistrates Court, make sure you arrive at court well before the time your matter is listed to be heard. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed and you should come prepared to be at court for most of the day.
If you are attending court for an intervention order matter, you should turn left immediately after security and make your appearance at the counter around the court to the right on ground level. If attending the court for a criminal matter, you should turn right and up to the top level (level 2), then keep right and make your appearance at the counter facing the big waiting area. A court list is also displayed in glass frames at the top of the stairs on level 2 (not including Intervention Order matters). You will be able to establish which courtroom your matter will be heard in by looking at those screens, or by asking at the court registry. You should always still inform the court of your presence at the counter before heading into the courtroom.
Taking the next step and contacting a lawyer can be scary. Our lawyers will make you feel comfortable so you can talk about your situation.
