Nambour Magistrates Court
Nambour Magistrates Court is located at 156-168 Currie Street, Nambour. The court contains one Magistrates Court. Its Registry is open from 8.30 am until 4.30 pm every day other than Wednesday. On Wednesdays, business hours are 9.30 am until 4.30 pm.
The Magistrates Court hears criminal law matters, civil law matters, traffic matters, and domestic violence matters involving adults. Criminal law matters where the accused is under 18 and domestic violence matters where the respondent is under 18 are dealt with by the Namour Children’s Court.
Nambour Magistrates Court does not have a Presiding Magistrate. The court is presided over by circuit magistrates who travel to Nambour from the Maroochydore Courthouse. The Magistrates who sit at Nambour are:
- Magistrate Madsen
- Magistrate Stjernqvist
- Magistrate Baldwin and
- Magistrate McLaughlin
The Nambour court calendar provides a list of the types of matters to be heard on each day of the month. The Daily Law List lists each matter before the court each day. A Justice of the Peace service is also available at the Nambour Registry, from Monday to Friday from 9.30 am until 3.30 pm.
The Maroochydore Magistrates Court is the main centre for hearing court cases on the Sunshine Coast. In Nambour, general court call overs occur twice a month. Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) matters, other than urgent Residential Tenancy matters are heard in Maroochydore. Only urgent Domestic Violence matters are heard in Nambour, with Maroochydore Magistrates Court dealing with the bulk of domestic violence matters.
