Our team of criminal lawyers has a wealth of knowledge and experience from specialising in criminal and traffic law only.  The team is led by three Accredited Specialists in Criminal Law. An Accredited Specialist is a lawyer with at-least 5 years of experience in a particular field of law that has been certified by the Law Society of NSW as an expert in the area.

Sydney Criminal Law Accredited Specialist: Angela Cooney

Angela Cooney is the National Practice Director of Criminal Law at Armstrong Legal and is an Accredited Criminal Law Specialist.

Angela is a confident and formidable advocate for her clients. She commonly appears in very complex and serious matters but is able to assist clients with all kinds of criminal and traffic offences.  Angela is an experienced court advocate having appeared in the Local and District Court, the Court of Criminal Appeal as well as in federal jurisdictions in a multitude of matters, including complex strictly indictable trials.

With years of experience in criminal law, Angela understands the often interrelated issues that arise in criminal matters and is able to guide clients through emotional and difficult times with sensitivity. Angela is passionate about providing clients with high quality and easy to understand legal advice and her experience allows her to provide clients with a first-class service.

Sydney Criminal Law Accredited Specialist: Trudie Cameron

Trudie Cameron is the Practice Director of Criminal Law and is responsible for supervising and managing the New South Wales Criminal Law team in addition to her own caseload.

Trudie is an accredited specialist in criminal law, practising exclusively in criminal and traffic law. Trudie defends clients charged with both state and commonwealth offences and appears on their behalf in Local and District Courts. Trudie has appeared as an instructing solicitor in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, New South Wales Court of Criminal Appeal and the High Court.

She combines her impressive skills in advocacy and legal analysis with a focus on her client’s interests and wellbeing. Her experience working for senior criminal law barristers prior to joining Armstrong Legal gives her a unique insight into criminal advocacy and practice.

Trudie is thorough and dedicated, working with her clients to develop a strategy to achieve the best results possible. She recognises that a client’s matter extends beyond the law, with criminal charges often having consequences for her clients’ work, travel, physical and mental health, and their relationships with family and friends. She is skilled at guiding clients through what is often the most difficult time of their life.

Trudie is passionate about the law and ensuring justice is done. Her adversarial skill set combined with her knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for the criminal law ensures all her clients receive representation of the highest quality.

Sydney Criminal Law Accredited Specialist: Craig Robinson

Craig Robinson is a highly experienced Criminal Law Accredited Specialist who has been practising for over 30 years.

Craig was admitted as a solicitor in 1983 after completing a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws at Sydney University. During his university years, he worked extensively in hospitality, construction and farm work. He also travelled and worked overseas for several years. Craig then completed a Master of Criminology degree at Sydney University in 1997.

Since admission he has worked exclusively in Criminal and Traffic Law, representing clients in courts all over NSW. He has represented clients in Local Court sentencing hearings, defended hearings, bail applications and ADVO matters. He has also represented clients in District Court trials, sentencing hearings, severity and conviction appeals. He has also represented clients in Supreme Court bail applications and NSW Court of Criminal Appeal matters.

Craig’s experience, cross-examination skills and candour in the courtroom are highly regarded. He is well known to magistrates and judges and has earned a reputation over many years as a thorough, honest and persuasive advocate. This has led to thousands of successful outcomes. He enthusiastically takes on the police where they have exceeded their duty or used excessive force, in some cases resulting in costs orders being made in favour of clients.

Craig is passionate about achieving the best result possible for each client. He communicates openly with clients, taking the time to obtain detailed instructions, advise them of all their options and plan an effective strategy.
