Orange Local Court
The Orange Local Court is located on Byng Street, on the corner with Lords Place and Robertson Park. The District Court of New South Wales also sits in Orange in two-, three- or four-week rotations at nominated times throughout the year in the same court complex. The District Court deals with serious indictable criminal matters.
The Local Court deals with all summary criminal matters, including traffic offences, and Apprehended Domestic Violence Order applications. The Local Court sits as the Children’s Court when dealing with criminal matters where the accused is under 18. These are held in the same room as the Local Court, but anyone who is not involved in the case will be asked to leave the room when the Children’s Court is sitting.
If you have a matter before the Orange Courts, make sure you arrive well before the time the matter is listed. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed, and you should come prepared to be at court for several hours. The court list is held by a registrar, who will circulate outside the courtroom before court begins, and ask people to check in.
Parking is available on Byng Street and around Robertson Park, as well as in the Orange City Council car park behind the council building, which is diagonally opposite the court, with an entrance on Lords Place. However, if you are attending court for traffic offences for which the court may impose a licence disqualification period, do not drive to court.
Taking the next step and contacting a lawyer can be scary. Our lawyers will make you feel comfortable so you can talk about your situation.
