Manly Local Court

Manly Local Court is a lovely old building containing two courtrooms and located at 2 Belgrave St, Manly directly across the road from Gilbert Park. There is a paid parking complex located on Whistler Street behind the court. It is also a short walk from the Manly ferry station.

The Local Court is the court where all criminal matters commence. It will hear cases about all kinds of criminal and traffic offenses, including Assaults, Domestic Violence, Drinking Driving, and Apprehended Domestic Violence Order applications. Criminal matters where the accused is under 18 and apprehended violence order matters where the respondent is under 18 are dealt with in the Children’s Court.

Serious indictable criminal matters must be finalised in the District Court or Supreme Courts.

Manly Local Court and Children’s Courts hear all matters originating from the Northern Beaches Police Area Command, which includes Mona Vale, Frenchs Forest, Manly and Dee Way police areas.

Manly Local Court is also an AVL court, meaning that it has audio-visual link capacity allowing individuals to appear via AVL as appropriate. If you are attending in person, the court doors open at 9:00 am, and court commences at 9 am with the Registrar’s call-over. You should always double-check your listing to ensure that you arrive on time and come to court dressed appropriately. If you are uncertain where you need to be you can ask at the Court Registry which is located down the corridor on your right as you enter the courthouse.

You should always come to court prepared to be there all day as magistrates do not hear matters in any particular order and will typically hear short matters (requests for an adjournment) first, before proceeding on to longer matters such as sentencing hearings.
