Corowa Local Court
The Local Court is the court where all criminal matters involving adults commence. It is also the court that finalises summary criminal matters, including traffic offences, and Apprehended Domestic Violence Order applications. The Local Court sits as the Children’s Court when dealing with criminal matters where the accused is under 18. These are held in the same room as the Local Court, but anyone not involved in the matter will be asked to leave the room when the Children’s Court is in session.
The District Court of New South Wales, which hears serious indictable criminal matters, does not sit at Corowa. If you have a serious indictable matter arising from the Corowa area, you should expect it to be finalised at Albury.
If you have a matter before Corowa Local Court, make sure you arrive well before the time the matter is listed. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed, and you should come prepared to be at court for several hours.
