Bathurst Local Court
The Local Court is the court where all criminal matters involving adults commence. It is also the court that hears summary criminal matters including traffic offences, hearings, and domestic violence order applications. While the Local Court deals with criminal matters where the accused is aged 18 or older, the Children’s Court deals with criminal matters where the accused is under 18 as well as hearing child protection and adoption matters.
If you have a matter in the Local Court, make sure you arrive at court well before the time your matter is listed to be heard. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed, and you should come prepared to be at court for most of the day. The Local Court is presided over by a Magistrate, who should always be addressed as “Your Honour.” Matters are generally not heard in any specific order, however, most courts hear matters where parties are legally represented before those where they are not.
There is ample street parking available on Russell St and adjoining streets around the Bathurst Local Court. If you are travelling by train from outside of Bathurst, travel to Bathurst Station, from which the court is a 10-15 mins walk from the station.
Each day the Bathurst Local Court has a morning session from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. It then has a morning tea adjournment from 11:30 am to 12 pm. This is followed by the middle session between 12 pm to 1 pm. Then the court breaks for the lunch adjournment between 1 pm to 2 pm. The final session of the day is the afternoon session which is between 2 pm to 4 pm. The court closes at 4 pm.
Taking the next step and contacting a lawyer can be scary. Our lawyers will make you feel comfortable so you can talk about your situation.
